Biography
Early Life & Career
Madison Thornton grew up in Clinton, Mississippi, and attended Puckett Attendance Center. From an early age, she demonstrated a strong interest in the legal field, first envisioning a career in law enforcement. While pursuing her undergraduate studies at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she earned a B.A. in Criminal Justice with a minor in Legal Studies, Madison became actively involved in the Criminal Justice Society and the Honors College. She also gained valuable hands-on experience working for a local criminal defense attorney. Recognized for her academic achievement, she received scholarships and was named to the Dean’s List in 2020.
Legal Training
Madison went on to attend Mississippi College School of Law, where she will graduate with her Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2025. During law school, she was an active member of several organizations, including Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, the Intellectual Property Law Society—where she served as Secretary—and the Military Justice Society. Madison also gained practical experience as a law clerk and extern, focusing on family law and criminal law. Her inspiration to pursue law grew out of an early internship at a criminal defense firm, where she witnessed firsthand the impact of dedicated advocacy on clients’ lives.

As a Legal Fellow at Smith Clinesmith LLP, Madison is excited to bring her experience in family and criminal law to a team committed to advocacy and justice. She is eager to continue developing her skills while contributing to the firm’s mission of protecting the most vulnerable. Madison is especially motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in nursing home cases, ensuring that those seeking safety and care are supported and protected.
