Early Life & Career

Piayon Lassanah’s upbringing spanned several countries, beginning in Paynesville, Liberia, continuing in Tema, Ghana, and ultimately leading him to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From an early age, Piayon developed a strong sense of justice and compassion for others, which inspired his lifelong interest in the law.

He attended Temple University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with minors in Business Administration and Sociology. During his undergraduate studies, Piayon was an active member of the Organization of African Student Union, where he cultivated leadership, advocacy, and community-building skills that continue to influence his professional life today.

Legal Training

Piayon earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2013. While in law school, he served as Community Service and Social Chair for the Black Law Student Association and was a dedicated member of the Student Recruitment Committee. These experiences strengthened his passion for mentorship and service, as he worked to foster inclusion and opportunity within the legal community.

He was admitted to the Bar in 2014 and began his career practicing personal injury law, focusing on advocating for clients and families navigating difficult and often life-altering circumstances.

Piayon joined Smith Clinesmith LLP as Of Counsel, where he continues his mission of serving clients with compassion, integrity, and excellence. He was drawn to the firm’s deep commitment to helping those in need during times of great difficulty—an ethos that aligns closely with his own professional values.

Throughout his career, Piayon has been recognized for his outstanding legal skill and dedication, earning the distinction of Super Lawyer Rising Star from 2019 through 2025.
